Michael Koerner has been actively working in the arts for nearly 30 years and has a genuine, long-standing record of utilizing an interdisciplinary and socially responsive approach. Concepts, methods, mediums, and scales continually evolve to meet the context of a given topical issue. Satire is the thread that runs through the majority of his art practice as he focuses on the human condition.
He is a tenured Associate Professor of New Media at Indiana University – Kokomo campus.
2025 has been action-packed with back-to-back solo exhibitions in Wisconsin and Arizona for two separate touring bodies of work, Rise & Fall and Patterns, respectively. The latter, Patterns, consists entirely of wallpaper designs. These designs open a new chapter for Koerner’s work that lands at the rarely visited intersection of interior design and social commentary.
His 2022 sabbatical in Iceland and Vancouver Island concluded with a Fall 2023 solo exhibition, Rise & Fall. Koerner has self-published two books, 2017’s Things We Will or Have Already Lost and 2014’s Seventy. His artwork has been exhibited extensively, including in London, Chicago, San Diego, Athens, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Munich, Rome, and Belfast. His artwork has been recognized by Sothebys, Bonhams, and Phillips Auctioneers, and resides in permanent collections in the US, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and South Korea. Notably, this includes two artworks in the UK's National Public Art Collection.
